Welcome to
genspn!
This comm is under construction.
everysecondtuesday will be gone off and on this weekend, but
lizfu will be around through Sunday, and
everysecondtuesday will be back by that evening. In the meantime, we want to gather ideas for tags and interests. If there's anything you think we're missing, speak up! This post is one that is open forever.
Later posts will discuss changing the headers to better match the needs of the comm, our spoiler policy, and much, much more, but we're trying to divide the work into manageable steps. If you notice any immediate and major problems with our bio and policies, feel free to poke us here, but the main topic of discussion we're looking for is what you'd love to see not already listed in our interests and what you would find most useful for tagging.
General tagging we're considering: characters; ratings; word counts; author, vidder, artist, etc. tags for people with three or more posts; type (AU, crossover, pie or Impala love, whatever you'd like to suggest here); medium (fic, vid, art, meta, discussion, icons, etc.). Any tag category you'd like to add? Specific tags for the type category? (Yes,
lizfu, "type: pie love" will be a tag.) Disagreement with the proposed three or more posts rule? Thoughts on whether authors, vidders, artists, and so on should be divided up into categories, or all together under the umbrella tag "creators: [username]" so a person's fan art and vids aren't separated? What intervals should be used for word count?
The floor is open for all discussion and suggestions!
everysecondtuesday has a strange, near-disturbing love for tagging and digital organization, so feel free to talk as much as you'd like to her about this.
This is a test post of what tagging could look like if we go for the umbrella creators tags and if the intervals of the word count tags were based off Tuesday's personal fic Delicious tags.
everysecondtuesday will take no offense if you find these intervals useless for your needs and want to do something else.

If you want to link to someone on another site like AO3 or LJ, use [user="username" site="site address"]
Do you want to add word count? I was thinking intervals along the lines of
* word count:1-1,000
* word count:1,001-3,000
* word count:3,001-5,000
* word count:5,001-7,500
* word count:7,501-10,000
* word count:10,001-15,000
* word count:15,001-20,000
* word count:20,001-40,000
* word count:40,001-80,000
* word count:80,000+
IDEK. I'm curious as to opinions on this.

Date: 2010-03-16 04:18 am (UTC)I don't tag fic by wordcount (or rating), so I don't know, but if you or someone else wants to add them, that's cool.

Date: 2010-03-29 06:42 am (UTC)I'm starting up a community for comment-sized Supernatural fanworks,
We're modeled after commentfic memes, so we'll post a weekly theme and then ask for prompts and responses to that theme. We accept all mediums for fanworks; we also accept all genres, all ratings, and all pairings. We'll post themes every Friday, and our first theme goes live this Friday, April 2.
If you want to take a look around and see what we're up to, all of
Best,

Date: 2010-04-01 12:01 am (UTC)Taking off the mod hat, on a personal note, I'm really excited about your comm. It sounds like something I'll really love.
eta: Also, I talked it over with one of the other comm mods, and yes, you can totally make a comm announcement. We'd appreciate it if you framed it in a way that emphasized how it overlapped comm interests (i.e. it is a place where you can add more gen fanworks to the world \o/ (not that I think that is all that will be going on there; much as I like gen, I do not believe it rules the fandom world with an iron fist *wry smile*)), but I'm sure whatever you come up with will be fine. I'll make a tag for "medium: comm announcement" for you.
Re: Query
Date: 2010-04-01 03:07 am (UTC)Yay! I'm very excited, too. We've got the first month or so of themes selected, and we tried to select a mix of theme types so that everyone was likely to find something that worked for hir in the first few weeks.
I'll probably do a comm announcement tomorrow. (I just woke up, and don't quite trust myself not to write something with a dreadful error or three.) Thank you, and I can certainly explicitly mention the gen potential. I might also try to vibe with the language you have in your bio - I definitely want the feeling of inclusivity and welcoming.
Taking off my modly hat, I really like how
ETA: It strikes me, in retrospect, that my phrasing at the end was kind of odd. Mostly, I wanted to say that I ♥ "This comm is mostly to provide a place on Dreamwidth for your gen that doesn't fit your shipper-specific, slash, femslash, and het comms, but which you might want to share with the world without being judged for your shipping preferences. We accept all kinds with open arms" as a mission statement. And now, I'm going to be glad that I didn't post a comm announcement last night while sleepy.
Re: Query
Date: 2010-04-01 01:40 pm (UTC)I kept it pretty short - in essence, 'tis "Come play with us!" Let me know if you want me to alter anything for whatever reason.
